Bad Posture – Why You Should Care And How To Improve It

When you’re talking about posture, you’re also talking about your health.  Almost as important as it is to eat well, exercise, and get a good night sleep,  good posture helps you accomplish everything in life with less fatigue, stress, and more energy.

There are tremendous benefits to having good posture.  Having a bad posture is something most of us share in common. Nevertheless, you can take care of it at any age.

With bad posture, bones aren’t properly aligned and ligaments, joints, and muscles are not working together as well as they should. 

In most cases, bad posture develops through bad habits and environmental factors. In other cases,  bad posture is the result of an injury.

Nowadays, it’s normal to get into a routine of bad posture.  This is because:

– People tend to spend more time watching television or on the computer than before;

– Many people work endless hours at a desk or typing the entire day;

– The number of car accidents has increased, resulting in more people getting injured;

– When driving, people tend to have bad posture.

In many cases, however, bad posture isn’t because of one factor but because of several, which may include:

– a cheap mattress

– weak muscles and no exercise

– accidents, falls, and injuries

– emotional or visual difficulties

– poorly designed workplace

– careless standing, sitting, and sleeping habits

– improper shoes or foot problems

– excessive weight

– occupational stress

– negative self-image.

What can you do to have good posture and maintain it?

– Keep doing exercise regularly. This will help tone your muscles that support good posture.

– Pay extra attention when you fall or get an injury. 

– Look closely at your workplace. Make sure that your chair and desk are the right height for you and check if you need a footrest to release some of the pressure off your legs.

– Watch your weight. 

– Replace your mattress if you have to. Your mattress should be firm enough to provide you with spinal support.
